Rock Solid Methods and Philosophy

Looking
Look and Listen
Easier said than done. There's 20 other kids in your child's classroom. There are coloring projects on all the walls, books on all the desks, and the constant noise and distractions of a school classroom. How will your child learn? Developing the skill to look and listen sounds simple, but it's much harder than it sounds. As with all things worth having, it takes practice. Something so simple as look and listen can make all the difference. Come and watch one of our classes. Look and listen what we do to strengthen these skills in our students.

Belief vs Trust
Anyone who has ever gained the full potential from an experience has been willing to trust that something good can and will happen. To believe is not enough. The world is full of people who believe until the going becomes difficult or they no longer understand. It's not important for a person to understand the process. What is important is to trust the result. A person who has trust or faith in an outcome, another person, or a far fetched dream can experience a personal joy and personal growth far superior to those who do not possess this ability.

Raising expectation and getting results
We've had parents say "I want my son to have fun". We agree. We also realize that helping someone become Rock Solid takes more than just having fun. You see, we understand that even though having fun is important, it can not stand by itself. Having fun will not make a parent continue to bring their child to our martial arts program. Raising expectations on the other hand and slowly but surely presenting reasonable challenges, will give a student results that last a lifetime. Children need and want structure. Children need and want to be challenged. Parents need and want to see their children grow and feel good about themselves. We can accomplish all of these goals with the correct blend of challenge, expectation, and fun.

Respect
Respect - A two-way street
People always respond more favorably when they feel that they are treated with respect and dignity and are valuable members of a team. Instructors at Martial Arts America realize that it's much easier and infinitely more rewarding to treat students as if they are valuable members of our team. Instructors treat students with respect and dignity. Students do the same for instructors and other students. It's a winning formula. It's an important part of creating our ideal learning environment in our Island of Positive.
